Chrysler aims to condense all three brands into single dealerships

Chrysler's Project Genesis plan has been gaining traction as of late. The goal is to cut out redundant models between the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands, which would also mean consolidating its entire product line into one dealership which offers all three marques. While there are some dealership owners fighting the strategy, The Detroit News reports that Chrysler already has fifty-eight percent of its dealerships offering its three brands, and its been able to cut out some smaller, less profitable sites in the process. While franchise laws prohibit Chrysler from requiring the switch, reducing its model line can have the same effect, forcing its dealers to offer the entire product catalog from the company in order to offer a full line of vehicles.

As a side benefit, the automaker hopes that its dealers can upgrade their franchises, offering a modern look and high-tech features such as Wi-Fi and a cafe on site. Of course, Chrysler needs to do its part by producing some good vehicles for those dealers to offer.
Whether Chrysler LLC is to be fixed and be sold or kept, it sure its looking up for a change.

This is actually a BETTER way of business, because by offering all 3 lineups at one location, some people actually will look at other vehicles they may have in the past overlooked.

This is how it's always been for me, all the dealers I go to around here have carried all 3 brands for years.

It does make sense. Just feel bad for some "small dealers" who are going to lose out. One I know, just closed after 63 years!!

The dealership where I worked was a DCJ...as are many dealerships in that area.

That's the way it should have been really, unless the market didn't request it. For example, it would be pointless to place a high-end Chrysler dealership in the middle of a small redneck townin West Virginia.

you're right about not putting a high end Chrysler in WV, but can't you control that by inventory? Offer all three makes, but keep your inventory stocked by what you sell...

Around here, it's Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Kia/Mazda/Suzuki in one dealership, all but the Kia cars in the same lot. Kia is across the street.

This is going over like a lead balloon in the Detroit area. Here we mostly have either dodge dealers, or Chrysler/jeep dealers. And most of them do at least 10 times what the average store sales are. So this should be interesting unless Chrysler wants to open up its checkbook, and buy dealers out.
