Pretty good, but it's already slightly tuned like a race car.

This car is essentially a track car with a racing suspension and it is my understanding that they used a professional race driver to drive it. As evidenced by the video of the guy essentially running it at the rev limiter most of the run. They are also using non stock tires, while the ZR1 uses PS2's...the available stock tires for the ZR1

This cannot be compared to the ZR1 however, as the ZR1 is a stock factory option, not an ACR. When they debut the new racing version of the Corvette based on the ZR1 (ala the C6R) then we can adequately compare.

However, its still very impressive. Still, the current Viper is a production model, and the ZR1 they ran at the Ring was still essentially a concept version short of production. The difference in .4 seconds isnt enough for me to really make a case for the ACR just yet...

There is another factor not brought up here as to why the ACR could out perform the ZR1 here. Gearing. With the ACR hitting the limiter so many times the Vette would have had hit it longer and had to take a shift. Add that up over 7 minutes and lots of turns.

Lance, the ACR is a track car, and the ZR1 was a completely stock tune/setup.

ZR1 Concept run at the Ring - 7.26.4
SRT10 ACR run at the Ring - 7.22

Gearing means absolutely squat at this point.... now throw on some better tires and a modified suspension like the ACR has....and then lets run the ZR1 again....

the ACR isnt a track car...the ACR has been an offered package on the viper in the past, and i believe it to be a handling package, similar to what it was on the srt4 ACR models. this would be like saying that the srt4 isnt stock because its boosted...the stratus RT has better suspension than the base stratus...so does that make it a race car? hardly. its a production vehicle, just like the ZR1.

the "Track model" for the viper is the competition coupe...which is literally a street legal race car...and ran something like 130,000 USD.'

what makes the ACR a "race car", other than a biased opinion? you know, the ZR1 is "tuned" in the same way as the ACR, so how is this even a discussion? so we should say that "stock" shouldnt include the new GT500s, because theyre blown and the base model is not..oh wait, thats just like the Vette.

Amandas truck has aftermarket tires..it must be a race car too. its not dodges fault that they offer better tires on the ACR than the junk that GM throws on their mighty dyno queen ZR1. Does the ZR1 feature the exact same suspension as the base model vette? does it offer the exact same tires as the base vette? Per this discussion, it had better. the chassis of the ZR1 isnt even made out of the same material as the base model vette, yet thats ok...but when dodge puts better suspension and tires on the viper ACR, that makes it unfair for the ring record...even though general motors had to completely re-engineer the construction of the Z06 and ZR1 to make them competitive. Should i maybe mention that the base viper is NA, and the ACR is NA...but its "tuned"...you dont think that the ZR1 is "tuned" compared to the Z06 or base vette? People are whining about suspension and tires, when the ZR1 got a new chassis, different engine, and supercharger?

Come on now...

Like ive said in the past..ill start worrying about ZR1s when one of their geriatric owners brings one to the track.

Gearing does mean squat. It is all the pieces added together than make the car, it is just one piece I pointed out that gets over looked.

If gearing does not mean squat talk to NASCAR drivers and crew chiefs that change them at almost every short track to eliminate a shift.

I also agree, the ACR is not a race car, it is a production car. What is a production car... One that is street legal, built at an automakers production plant and sold and their dealerships. Yup, that is the ACR.

I would never own one, although I would consider a 99 GEN II ACR.

I agree with 94rt the ACR is a production car not a race car.To the GM guys saying the the ZR1 should use the same tires and coilovers give the viper the same carbon brakes and gears found in the ZR1.
