Chrysler's Threat to Start Shutting Down after March 17th Reality or Myth?
It really doesn't matter if it is myth or fact, the myth makes it fact. By consistently declaring that they are about to close their doors, they are cutting their throats. What happens to a warranty when they no longer exist? Who would ever buy a new car without a warranty? And it doesn't even matter if there is something in place to sustain support for warranties when they go under, because most people don't know about it, and are thinking the exact same thing I am.
I read earlier on another site that GM and Chrysler were to merge and that the Jeep brand is to be sold to Navistar, because GM doesn't want the Jeep line to compete with the Hummer.
I don't see this happening though.

It's true - Hummers and Jeeps don't really compete, but the H3 is a much better vehicle in my opinion than a Wrangler. Not only did my H3 school my buddy's Wrangler and my coworker's FJ out on the trails, it's nicer inside, has more amenities, and rides much nicer and makes a great daily driver for my wife.
Hey - I love the original Hummer, but it wasn't a practical daily driver. It was a machine built for a purpose - and that purpose was not navigating urban streets or clogged highways. The H3 is still a very capable offroad machine and has a tight turning radius making it easier to park than her Mustang was - not to mention the interior is much nicer than her old Mustang and that of any Jeep.
We've had 0 issues with the H3 and it's been off road 15 or so times - a few of which were extremely challenging. And the service we receive at the Hummer dealership is top notch - rivaling luxury brands. The service I get at any of the 5 local Dodge/Jeep dealers is in line with that at a Kia dealership.
Yeah well, individual location service is a reflection of the people who work there, not necessarily the brand. You've met ******** at dodge dealers, I've met good helpful folks, I've met ******** at the GM dealer I worked at, you've met good helpful folks. I'm sure the GM dealer you go to also has some ********, just as I bet the dodge dealer I go to also has some hiding somewhere, the world is what it is. Also, don't discount the fact that the GM dealer is obligated to lick your *** because of the money you spend there, I'm sure it would be quite different if you had bought a cavalier and trailblazer as opposed to a corvette and a hummer. Just as I'm sure your dodge dealers would lick your *** if you bought a viper and an SRT Ram instead of trading a mid model truck for a mid model truck.
But back on topic, what does happen to warranties when the company dries up? What is in place(if anything), to assure buyers that they are going to continue to get service if the company folds? If there is something in place, why don't they publicize that to ease the minds of potential buyers?
