Dodge Avenger spied
this is what one of them said
"Honestly, has Chrysler group completely forgotten how to design attractive cars? Their LH cars were pretty damn attractive for their day and age, and un-rusted models still look fairly up to date today (minus jewled head and taillamps)... The LX cars look good too, strong, bold... but the Sebring, the Caliber, and now this thing... my god do they look ugly... and don't get me started on the droopy looking Durango and the Durango-but-punched-in-the-face Chrysler Aspen derivative... It's like they lose interest in designing their lower end cars, and only make they top end sedans look good.
No, no, it's European, the "T" is silent.... I'm getting an Audit"

The only thing about that picture that gives me hope is the fact that the Avenger is shown to have dual exhaust. The Charger doesn't have dual exhaust. The only car powered by the 3.5L that had dual exhaust was the 300M Special. Maybe they will give the Avenger the higher output version because Dodge is supposed to be about performance and doesn't have to be concerned about the noise of the engine damaging a luxury image as Chrysler does. Is the Sebring supposed to have dual exhaust.

The Avenger and Sebring both will get dual exhaust. I believe these only apply on the 3.5L version. Personally, it's really not that big a deal either way. I'm with you, hopefully they push the issue to giving it the full power and making it an Altima fighter.
Why would they be afraid of taking sales away from the Caliber? The Avenger is going to be a more expensive car in the first place, I'd think they would want to make the Avenger more competitive with its class.
I wouldn't be worried about the Avenger taking sales away from the Charger. The Charger appeals to a particular crowd (RWD large American car fans), whereas the Avenger appeals to a different crowd (FWD mid-sized Japanese car fans).
Personally, I'd had higher hopes for this car....but I'm starting to be disappointed.

As for them taking sales away from the Caliber....some people truly dont want a hatchback. I would rather have a sedan personally over a hatchback. More people I think would be inclined to buy a turbo sedan as opposed to hatchback. Simply look at all the turbo cars currently being built in the last 15 yrs.....not many were hatchbacks. Car's like the Eagle Talon TSi and the Stealth/3000GT are really the only ones that truly standout as hatchbacks....but the rest are primarily sedans and coupes...
Look at the Avenger. It's basically looks like a Mini-Charger. Alot of people who maybe like the look but dont want the big car will go with the Avenger. The design will play on people's desires for a Charger look but with a smaller car with better gas mileage. Maybe it doesnt steal sales, but I guarantee you alot of people will look at it simply because of the Charger....or because they confused it for one.

Despite the fact that the Caliber might offer inexpensive performance, there is no way on earth I will ever buy one. If Dodge and Chrysler don't offer a performance model of some sort, I believe people who are in the mid-sized performance market will go for another mid-sized sport sedan such as the Altima or G6 GTP. I doubt they would switch over to the Caliber.
I also agree with you that cars like the Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Stealth/3000GT are the exception because they are sporty coupes and not, well, station wagons.
The at first took a lot of styling cues from the Intrepid as well, but was different enough. The front looks like a Caliber, the side looks like the Charger, and the rear looks like a more muscular Stratus. I still don't think the Avenger will hurt the Charger's sales. Frankly, it is more important for Dodge to have a competitive mid-sized car than a large car because the mid-sized market is larger. The Charger is quite competitive and I believe it offers the Avenger plenty of performance room.

I never heard an actual reason why they didn't produce it, and I would imagine the torque steer wouldn't be to bad, no worse than a 300hp FWD Caliber which they are making.

GM guys got alot of room to talk. Just remind them of the Aztec.
It doesnt take much creativity to copy an existing model. I guess there's suppose to be some family resemblence, I just wish Dodge would have changed it up abit. Instead, it's kinda "been there, done that".
It's alright.

Car and Driver lists the new 3.5L powered-Sebring (sister car) as doing 0-60 in 6.8 secs. Maybe it will be more competitive than the hp and torque numbers sound.
