Chrysler Talks W/GM Getting Closer.
The main reason GM wants Chrysler is for the Jeep brand. They tried for AMC for the same reason and Chrysler won out. They have wanted Jepp for a long time. I would guess that Chrysler & Dodge would go the way AMC and Eagle did after Chrysler got AMC. Maybe they would keep the HEMI but one never knows...
Just my opinion...

Yes, I also think they would use the Hemi in some other cars.

I dont know, I think the SRT-8 jeep is bad. My dad drove a trailblazer and said it felt cheap... he said the samething about the Grand cherokee though. I think the trailblazer has more along the lines of luxury, but GMs real flagship SUVs are Hummers, and Denalis. What does DCX have that compares to those? the Aspen? yeah right.
For me any purchase by GM would be crap. But my two cents would be Dodge and Jeep if anything would survive. Crossfire, Aspen, 300, etc. would either be re-badged as Dodges and less selling models dropped completely. I suspect, only the 300 would survive based on GM lineup, they don't have a "seller" in that class and the "hemi" is a natural in it too.
SUVs it tend to agree. They've screwed up the Durango recently, which has really hurt unit production levels even before gas crunch. Jeep seems quite steady and more versatile in terms of demographics and engine/body configurations not to mention brand name recognition.

I really like the Trail Blazer with the SS package
A merger between the two would only lead to the bankruptcy of both companies. GM is digging it's grave faster than usuall and would pull DC down with it. I'd hate to see such a great and trend setting company go to the dumps. I think DC is doing very well on their own. I do remember reading an article stating that for the first time in recent history Ford fell to fourth in auto sales, right behind DC. So for now I think DC will be able to hold their own and pull through.
