Default Convert Challenger to Charger

Ok this is in all seriousness. I want to restore an older car and im going to get ready for the searchin. I want a charger, but i know there rare and hard to find along with being expensive. But a friend of mine told me i can buy a challenger and convert it to a charger relatively easy (change front end. ie fenders, hood, front header panel, headlights, and bumper and rear bumper tail lights and rear facia)

Is this possible or am i hearing a whole bunch of crap?

If so can someone help me with a link?

Reason why being i ask this question is that i heard they used alot of challengers that were converted to chargers for the show "dukes of Hazzard"

please and thank you everyone

I don't think that's right. While I'm sure others on here know more than me about this, Challengers are E bodies and Chargers are B bodies, E bodies are shorter but wider than B bodies. While E bodies are derived from B bodies, I know it would be alot easier to start with a B body if what you want is a Charger. Chargers aren't rare at least compared to either of the E bodies.

What they might have done on the Dukes of Hazzard is converted say a Coronet to a Charger or something...Or I could be all wrong.

B bodies like the Charger and Road Runner etc. are much easier to find than E body Barracudas, Challengers, and 'Cudas, and according to most the B bodies are usually in better shape at least for sheet metal.

Best of luck finding your new project car!

Never listen to whomever told you that load of steaming BS. It is NOT possible to make a Challenger into a Charger without massive amounts of cutting and welding and it still being a jumbled mess of scrap. As mentioned the Challenger is a smaller E body and the Charger is a larger B body and only certaing years share any parts other than drivetrain parts. There are far more Chargers than Challengers, the Charger was one of the most heavily produced Mopars made. All are fairly expensive in good shape, but the Chargers are more abundant and cheaper than the Challengers. The '68-'70 Chargers are the most sought after, so for a 1stresto project you might want to get a '71-'74 Charger.

You cant even take another B-body and make it a Charger. Everythings different except the very basics-i.e. cowl, floorpans, core support. But even then theyre somewhat different. Go find a Charger; they arent rare, there actually quit plentiful. You gotta go find them, but theres lots out there. Price is the only issue. Dont go hackin somethin up just to make some Franken-muscle car.

Totally agree w/ Scatpak. Heck, just trying to transplant the roof lines (unique for a Charger) would be an insane project in itself.

Ask him to share whatever it is he's smokin'..... the only thing they ever did on the Dukes in the way of Charger creation was to put a 69 grile and taillight assembly on a 68 or a 70 for some of the long distance stunt shots. Can't even easily make a Coronet into a Charger without major body mods.
