Default trans help

ok heres the deal. long story short. 72 charger. originally had 318. blew it. i now have a 360 out of a late 70s truck. i was told that the 360 is externally balanced or something. i am looking for a trans but dont want to buy the wrong thing. the original 904 is toast so i have no trans at all. i am looking to see if anything will work with the original drive shaft and the 360 motor. car has been on jack stands about 6 years, and out of commission for at least 10. help please. thanks

you should be looking for a A727 (will take more abuse than the 904)
the 360 is externally balanced by the damper

differnce between the 727 longtail as you call it is its longer the back of the tranny that is and all 727s are for cars that i know...you need a different driveshaft as the 904 is shorter talishaft

as far as the 360 yes as stated above its externally balnced what needs to be done is welding a weight on the converter other wise ...well you woudlnt want to drive it other wise or find a torqueconverter from a 360 carfor your 727 and i dont think your 904 converter would work in 727 i dont have the parts numbers in front of me...GL
