Default 66 Coronet Wide Block 318 Questions???...

ok i found a 66 or 67 Coronet 500 with a 318 Wide Block (90) Degree with a 2BBL carb not quite sure yet on year only thing wrong is drivers door and front fender are beat up but have another full parts car w/o glass but everything else is there with door and fender
but i think the engines gona smack me in the face but will a 4 barrel intake manifold off of a 318 60 degree block work on the 318 90 degree wide block. it has the stock motor/tranny/carb and such want to put a 4 barrel on the car and if its possible to take 360 heads on it or if their not interchangeable so that it will flow more air/gas with the 4 barrel...........if anyone has any links to engine parts for this car please post them. otherwise besides maybe a heads/carb/intake swap i want to keep it all original not factory specs on paints and interior colors but relatively stock motor just with lil more get go

so if anyone has a little bit more info on this style engine and whats interchangeable off other 318s / 360s please post thanks all

To my knowledge, virtually nothing will interchange between the two. It must be a '66 Coronet, because that was the last year for the wide block 318. On the plus side, any later 318 or 360 would be a bolt-in swap if you wanted to go that route.

The Poly 318 (wide block) has a semi hemispherical heads. It is actually a cross between the standard wedge design and a hemi head. They are very interesting engines. There are a number of people who have hotroded them and race them. You can still find parts for them, including original, and aftermarket dual 4V carburetor intakes! About the only thing, I can remember interchanging are the connecting rods. I have a bunch of parts sitting in my garage. If you search for the “Poly 318†on the web (eBay too), you will find a lot of information on them. In addition, a lot parts are still out there, and since not to many people get into these motors, I often see part are cheap. Good luck with that not-so-common engine. You will most likely be the only one with one at a car show!

ok thanks alot man i plan on getting some pictures of the two "poly" 318 66 or 67 idk yet coronets i have to work with iam going to restore one and either restore the other and sell it or atleast get it running and drivable and sell it depends only 20 in colledge working on a limited budget but my budy is autobody so we can do all that stuff our selves. and if i take any style seats electric or regular outa anything i think ill rebuild custom seat mounts what seats would work the best its got buckets infront with the floor shift and the regular back seat all cars have so any ideas on the backseats what cars might be the same size and such would be nice the front seats i can figour out myself i hope

Unless you are going for a restoration look for any LA series 318. They are smaller and lighter and there is a boatload of parts out there that fit. If you must go with a "poly" motor TTI makes a good set of headers but they are not cheap. If you want to really get carried away 318/340 stroker cranks drop in. You will have to have pistons made but recently the prices on custom domes have dropped. One of the Mopar rags had a feature on a "poly" stroker build up.

my buddy had a poly 318 in his dodge truck and he was able to bolt in a 354 firepower hemi. I think all the mounts are identical. So you could always go that route too...

I'd go with an LA wedge untill I had the money for a B/RB conversion. If it's primarly a cruiser I'd stick with the LA set up. A Magnum 360 crate motor is another option. A regular Magnum wouldn't work because they don't have the ears for the motor mount brackets.

What year was your buddy's truck? The crank hub on the early hemi is diffrent from the later Poly, LA, and B/RB. They used to make an adapter to bolt an aluminum Torquflite to the early blocks.

Just a heads up, there were two poly 2x4 setups listed on Ebay today. One pricey but nice the other reasonable for the condition.

I say stick with the poly, or step up to a firepower. Nothing like hot rodding stuff that most people don't hot rod! +1 for originality... stay off the beaten path!
