Can any one help me with this question on swapping a 318 with a 360?
I have a mint 1974 Dodge Charger with a factory 318 that I am going to replace with a 425 hp 360 V8 which I am currently building up. My car has a factory 727 Torq Flite tranny and I was wondering if i needed to make any modifications to the chasis to make this swap possible. Can any one help me please? Thank you all.
It should bolt right up as long as it is the same generation block. You didn't say what year the block was. If its the newer creat motor i would contact Mopar performace
, they should be able to help.

as long as the units are the same lenth and width you should have no problems putting it in. The problem will be your stronger motor will effect the wear and tear on the stock unit and stock rear end. Both should be gone through to beef them up for the magnum motor. Brakes and torque converter need to be looked at too!! Have fun.
Different balance on the engine internals. I solved the problem with a B&M flexplate for 360 to 318 conversions. Also driver side motor mount might be different. The ears are closer together. Or is it the passenger side? I keep forgetting. If you have a 727 series Torqueflite you should have the heavier rear axle. Most 318 cars ran the 904 series Torqueflite from 1967 or 1968 up.
