Default Battery Drain

Im having a problem with my 69 Coronet. When I run the car at night for an extended period of time and turn the car off I wont be able to start it back up. The battery will be dead... The Alt is brand new and strong. Im not sure what else could be the issue.

I'd take it to your local auto parts place and have them test it and the batteryto be sure then make sure the belt is tight. Make sure when you stop driving all accesories/switches etc.are off and see what happens.

Sounds like a short, I have an issue similar to it and I know it is with the taillight wiring so when I park it I disconnect the battery until I fix the problem.

Yea... I might have to start doing that. Im considering getting a harness and re doing the wiring... I just dont know if im going to have that much time on my hands. Any idea of how much a shop might charge for that kind of job.

It shouldn't cost very much since there isn't that much wiring at all and it all depends on if your wanting the entire car rewired or just part of it. A new car would probably cost as much as the car itself with all their wiring. If your concerned about factory correctness you'll need to get wiring harnesses from Year One or another restoration shop that will have the correct size, color, markings, connections, plugs, etc. If you go with the reproduction harnesses you can replace the wiring yourself fairly quick and easy, but they are expensive. Call a few auto electric shops and see what they would charge you and compare that with the other way.

What ones in particular are you looking for? I am currently borrowing my dad's 1969 Dodge Charger/Coronet/Dart factory service manual and I have a scanner so let me know.

Im going to use a painless harness and rewire everything... I have this one butit isnt all that great.http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1969/69CoronetB.JPGI need everything on the firewall/bulkhead engine compartment and gages. I tried working with what i had and it hasnt turned out pretty. Everytime i hook up the bat my Alt power cable fries... then my wire going to the ammeter from the starter relay fries. Its a mess...
