i just purchased a 06 charger SRT8 and im enjoying it as much as all the srt owners are
But my freind has a 01 C5 corvette automatic and i was wondering If i was to race him who would win?

Coming directly from my own personal experience- you WILL beat him in a race. Corvettes are a dime a dozen in my hometown (almost as common as Mustangs!). On average, I'd say that I race a Corvette at least once every week during the summer months.
On a side note, I raced an '04 Z06 just two days ago- I was surprised at how well my Charger stuck with him. It was a very short race (about two blocks at most), but he only pulled ahead ever so slightly (never more than a car length). In fact, I discovered after that the elbow connecting my throttle body to my cold air intake (the only mod I have at this point) had loosened off allowing for a small air leak. So who knows? That small leak might have made a big difference. *shrugs* I guess I won't know until I race him again.
It just goes to show that not all "fast-looking-cars" are as quick as they look.

The C5 would be a close win but they Z06 driver could not drive worth ****. A stock Z06 will kill a stock SRT-8 Charger, Magnum, 300, Jeep or anything else that dodge decides to put the 6.1L beast in. My C5 Z06(which I had before buying the new Z06) would walk away from the SRT-8s that I ran into.
I didn't say that I beat the Z06, I merely commented on how close I stuck with him given the fact that our cars are the proverbial apples and oranges when compared with each other. I would be appalled if someone couldn't pilot a 405hp and 3118 lb car with a 6spd past a 4160 lb sedan.
2002 Corvette Z06:
0-60 MPH= 4.0 seconds
1/4 Mile= 12.5 seconds @ 115 MPH
Top Speed= 171 MPH
2006 Charger SRT-8:
0-60 MPH= 4.8 seconds
1/4 Mile= 12.8 @ 117 MPH
Top Speed= 165 MPH
You have to admit though, the numbers are pretty tight considering the weight difference and the fact that the SRT-8s utilize an autostick.
Does anybody know what the LS6 5.7L makes at the crank?
Hot Rod supposedly dyno'd 460 horsepower at the crank from a 6.1L Hemi not so long ago. It would be interesting to compare the two engines true, unadulterated horsepower and torque ratings.

LMAO. We must get out of the habit of magazine racing Dartman. The SRT8 cars do not hit high 12s stock. They are powerful cars don't get me wrong but a the track they stay in the low 13s. The Z06 is a much easier car to get in the 12's however due to it's weight and aerodynamic drag, or lack thereof. The 5.7L LS6 make 405 crank HP. And the 6.1L hemi makes 425hp. If what you are saying is true, that would mean that despite the Z06 only lacking 20 hp and over 1000lbs in curb weight the SRT8 could still give it a pretty competitive run. Let me tell you from experience, the SRT8 is not close to the Z06 performance whether it be on the track or the street.
Oh-oh! Looks like we have another Devil's Reject on the forum!
If you doubt the 12s my son, please feel free to check out the videos I linked to on another thread (twas the one under brand news and concepts to do with the rumored 6.6L Hemi). There you will find real world proof of the SRT-8's might. Hell, the one fellow with 50 miles on his car did a 12.88 second run. If an SRT-8 with an unseasoned engine can dig into the 12s, a fully broken in unit certainly would be capable of the same if not better.
Furthermore, I was not implying that SRT-8s are direct competitors to Z06s. I had, in fact, only pointed out that the much heavier, more adaptable, and comfortable Charger SRT-8 pulls numbers that are shockingly close to the much pricier "all-out-sportscar" Corvette. I am NOT saying that the SRT-8 could dance magical circles around a Z06 on the Nurburgring- please adjust your bifocals!
In regards to my open question about the LS6 5.7L crank horsepower, I appeared to have been negligent since I did not provide an "automotives 101" style lesson for those of us here *cough cough* who are not familiar with the various ways in rating horsepower. Yes, the 6.1L Hemi has an advertised output of 425 NET horsepower and the 5.7L LS6 shows 405 NET horsepower. When I presented the question of what the LS6 makes at the crank, I am asking what it's GROSS horsepower rating is (I was simply using a bit of slang). GROSS horsepower is measured devoid of all engine-run accessories whereas NET is measured with said accessories accounted for. Basically, I was hoping that some independant tester had run the Z06 engine on a dyno to show us what sort of power and torque it TRULY made. When car companies release power and torque numbers for their engines, they usually doctor them by alittle (or sometimes alot!). Hot Rod Magazine had independantly dyno'd the 6.1L Hemi and had found it to produce 460 gross horsepower. I was merely wondering if the LS6 is similarily underrated or not. It was a simple question of curiousity with no intent on blaspheming the precious Z06. Please cool your jets!
Lastly, calling me a magazine racer is hardly accurate. I own a Charger SRT-8 and frequently race it on and off the track. I know full well what these cars are capable of and how they fair against many of the other supercars out there. Vipers, Z06s, Cobras, Esprits, Modenas...I have gone against all of these and more. For you to imply that I know nothing but what a periodical preaches on these matters, is presumptuous at best. Yes, I do read car magazines. That does not mean I have not experienced these vehicles first hand. If you are still truly in doubt, I invite you to come for a ride along in my car on a Friday or Saturday night. Don't worry though, I promised your mother that I'd have you back before your curfew.

Very amusing Dartman. Your dads SRT8 Charger is a high 13 car on average. You think I'm upset? talk about presumptuous! I have a 2006 Z06 and there is not a stock Dodge car that keep up with me. Oh and to make your little paragraph a bit more simple why don't just ask how rwhp does the LS6 produce?
PS my mother has passed on...my wife now manages my curfew.
...not that there's anything wrong with the '90s Imperials- fine cars even by today's standards!
I'm sure that Dad would love to get behind the wheel of my Charger, but considering the fact that starting to develop cataracts on both his eyes, I'm going to make sure that he doesn't get the keys anytime soon. Besides, he's long retired and is more into the slow, plodding, luxury cars than the go-fast sportster variety.
