Hello,

I am looking at buying a Dodge Ram 1500 for my first truck. I am just wondering if anyone has any hints or suggestions on models or years that are best.

I will be using the truck for basically if I need to throw anything in the back. I wont be towing huge loads with it and I am looking for a quad cab.

Is this a brand new truck or a used truck? In a 2nd generation ram (94-01) I would avoid the ram with the 3.9 v6 because its underpowered and gets about the same mileage as a 5.2 v8. Other than that I would try to find a truck that's been maintained regularly and you've got nothing to worry about. Try to find a truck that hasn't been someone's play truck that they just beat up and don't care if it breaks.

 

Also if its a 2nd gen gasser, ask the seller about the plenum gasket issue and if the truck is experiencing it or if he's fixed it. It's a pretty common issue on these trucks.

and that new 1500 diesel is NOT a cummins...
