Default '07 Dodge Caliber noises

Hi! Brand new to the Forum and am having some noise issues. I live in Man. where it has been FREEZING and the noise issues I have according to the Dealership where it was yesterday say these are "extreme cold weather" noises and normal. I did not experience these last winter at all. The noises I have are a loud "thunk" coming from the rear going over bumps and also a grinding sound when I make a hard right or left turn from the front end. The dealership told me the 2nd noise was a Caliber noise that happens frequently. Can anyone help as I am a woman and feel that they aren't telling me the truth. My vehicle is under warranty for this. THANKS!!

I'll move this to the Caliber section so you get your answer.

Welcome to the forum

We have an 09 SXT. When it is very cold, say below 20 degrees, in the first mile or two when turning and accelerating, it makes a knocking type noise that almost sounds like the CV joints are bad. It goes away after a couple of miles. Our car has just over 2000 miles on it and I haven't had the dealer look at it yet, but it doesn't seem to have hurt anything.
I have not heard any noises from the rear, so I can not comment on that.

Thanks for the welcome! Sounds very similar to my problem, was told by the dealership that it's due to the tires spinning while turning?!?! Not sure what it means but it was very chilly here today and the noises were louder than ever!! Guess I wait til Spring and see if they disappear!

You do have the lifetime powertrain warranty, don't you? Regardless, it will be covered under the 3yr/36K mile warranty if something did fail.

Wow. Mine has only done it a couple of times and only when the temps are in the single digits. After a mile or two, it goes away. I'll have them check it when it gets it's first oil change.

yeah it wouldnt hurt yours might just be cus of the cold cus hers happened all the time it seemed but it was somethign that was done wrong at the factory so i think its only reasonable that her car was not the only car thefactory did wrong and it never hurts to be cautious when your front axles might be loose lol

Thanks for the responses! Now that the temps have FINALLY warmed up here the grinding coming from the front seems to have quited down. I still hear a few noises coming from the trunk but not as bad! These noises weren't happening all the time, the grinding would go away after a few km's or when the car warmed up. My concern is that this is my 2nd winter with my car and even though it wasn't as cold last year I never had any of the noises!! Guess I resign myself to the fact that I own a Dodge and they're noisy!!!

I'm going to have the dealer check the axles when it gets it's first oil change just to be safe.
