Default Instrument Panel Lights

My wife and I just bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT with 65000km. We are very happy with it , this will be our second Dodge car the we buy. Since its getting cold up here in Toronto, canada I have had to use the rear defroster a bit these past days and the problem I am having is the where the button is the light does not come on, the same with the AC Button and Criculating air button, so I have no idea if the rear defroster is working or not.I use the front defoggers and i think that helps. I checked all the fuses, they are all good , now I was told by friends to take the dashboard out. Would this be a good idea and how or should I just go to the dealer and see what they can do? I only have powertrain warranty as the the other warranty expired that covers electrical. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for reading my post.

Welcome to the forum

I wonder if someone has had the panel out and forgot to plug something back in. You might try popping off the center panel that surrounds the radio and HVAC controls and see if everything is plugged in. Does the a/c compressor kick in if you turn on the a/c button with the switch turned to the panel vents? It may not stay on long if it is cold up there. You should also see lines in the rear window clear as the strips heat up if the rear def. is working.

They are on a fuse, however if the fuse goes all the instrument lights quit and usually your dome light. You have to pull the cover off on your panel. Most likely it is phillips head screws or torx head like a T-20. You pull all those little screws off around the underside of the dash and down around your steering wheel sometimes it may also go around your the bottom side of the steering wheel just above your feet. The light generally just push in place in the socket. Auto zone or maybe even walmart may have the bulbs.
