Default Might buy a Caliber on Saturday!

Hi Everyone,

I currently own a 5.9 V8 Dodge Ram 1500, the MPG ain't doin' it for me. I'm getting around 11mpg city and 14/16 on the highway. I plan on buying a new Ram several years down the road when MPG has majorly increased (possibly wit the Hybrid Version) but for now I need a high MPG car for trips and daily commute.

I went to my local dealership looking at Calibers. I found a nice blue one with 1,000 miles on it (new, but technically used.) the guy before me couldn't pay anymore. It comes with the lifetime powertrain warranty, etc.

The local dealership said that would take $7,000 for my Ram, plus a $2,000 rebate... technically making it $9,000 (around what it's worth.) And then I would owe $5,000 (including tax, etc.) on the car, plus $150 a month payments till it's paid off. Also, if I buy it before the 31st I get the tax stuff back on my tax return (Thanks Obama!) so technically it's like I'm paying $3,000 for this new car.

Can anyone tell me what they think of this deal? should I talk them down more or am I pretty lucky? it's a 2009 model SXT.

I would be purchasing it this Saturday. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, what do you guys think of the SRT-4 rims? might throw some of those on.

Thanks,
Evan

Sounds like a great deal. I would get the lifetime warranty in writing because the factory lifetime powertrain warranty is non transferable and only good to the original owner. Our 09 SXT has been trouble free so far.

Mine (wife's) has the Musicgate stereo system with a 468watt amp and factory sub in the rear. That and the optional 6 disc.dvd/mpe player radio. All of the rest is standard on the SXT power everything and the chill zone to keep drinks cool in the top of the glovebox.
She drives about 7 miles to work in stop and go traffic and gets 20mpg. on the highway, It gets around 32mpg usually with the 2.0L CVT2 transmission. It's not the quietest car out there as there is some road noise to be heard, but it rides good and handles well.

I just purchased a 2007 R/T model! It's quite nice and has amazing features. In a few years I'll be sure to add a Ram to my cars, but for now I need a gas saver.

I do too. Many people rag on them because "they ain't no Neon" but I like ours. I even get to drive it every now and then I wish the stereo in my Ram jammed so good!! Maybe I should pull the Hemi from the Ram and put it in the Caliber

Post up some pics of the R/T when you can.

Looks to be in great shape. Nice ride!! I do miss the fog lights on ours. It was standard on the SXT Sport model. My Ram and Grand Caravan have them and they make a big difference. I may add some later. I'll bet it's pretty quick compared to our 2.0/CVT2 trans.

The fog lights are nice... one of the main reasons I chose it over the SXT. Both are excellent models though.
