Default OK to swap RADIOs in Calibers?

Is it OK to swap an older 2008 Dodge radio with more features in a 2012 Caliber? Does the "CanBus" go haywire if you do something like that? Why does the computer even care about your radio? Likewise, if you install an aftermarket radio, do you need a special module to keep the computer happy?

i am pretty sure that the 2008 is smaller and won't fit your bezel unless you use an older bezel. They changed the radio design in 09 to a double din size. I know that my 08 Ram radio doesn't have the uconnect buttons in it like our 09 caliber does, they are in my rear view mirror. I don't know if the plugs are even the same on the rear.

Aftermarket, you need a harness called a Lock-pic or something like that to keep the computer happy.
