A/C wont hold charge
Hello, I actually have a 2007 Jeep Compass Limited 2.4L but I come to the Dodge Caliber thread because there is more traffic than the Compass thread. Pretty much the same car. Anyhow, my AC will not hold a charge. I charged it a couple times and the charge was gone in a day. Put dye in the system and could not find a leak anywhere. Gave up, brought it to Mr. Tire. Their AC guy did the same thing. He could find no leak. Would not hold a charge. Went to dealer, they charged it last June and it held through the rest of the cooling season. This Spring it needed a charge again. Went back to dealer the other day and they charged it but it lasted only one day. I give up.
After extensive searching for the leak and not finding one my only thought is it must be the evaporator because that's the only part that cannot be seen. But it is also a major repair and I don't feel like replacing the evaporator unless I'm pretty confident it will solve my problem. This is why I am writing here...to get your thoughts. I'm happy to hear your experiences. Is the evaporator a common problem with this car??
Thanks, All!

I have been known to make up an adapter so that I can hook the low side fitting to compressed air. I then put air into the system so that I can hear where it is leaking. That's how I found the evaporator leak on my nephew's F150 a couple of years ago. Took a cheap fill hose and adapted it to fit the end of by blow nozzle. Good luck, usually the whole dash has to come out to replace them on most vehicles.
