Caliber gas mileage
ORIGINAL: sschnelker
Humm...400+ lbs of stereo equipment and still got over 40 on the highway...I just think they don't put in a high enough overdrive for doing 70+ on the highway anymore...I really don't mind downshifting to pass someone if it gets me better gas millage...
just my opinion, i could be wrong...

The Caliber, at least the R/T does not do well at 75MPH + speeds when it comes to fuel economy. But from 55-70 it does great. I even am getting 32 out of it driving at 45 MPH. Way above Chrysler specs, and considering the added size and weight of the car, including the weight from the AWD, I am pretty happy with its mileage.
With 1200 miles on the odometer, I'm at 24.2 mpg with my SXT 2.0 CVT II. Mostly city driving except for a 400 mile road trip. I only averaged about 22 mpg on that trip. I don't think the car likes going over 70 mph. The tach was hovering around 3K when driving 75 mph with Speed Control (no hills). I didn't think much of it until I calculated the milage later. Since then I noticed that if you keep it under 70 mph the tach stays in the low 2k's.

I imagine it does help with milage some because its a thin oil (synthetic). Also it will help your engine last MUCH longer than some $2.00/quart oil. Its well worth the extra money in the long run. Plus, you can run it 6,000 miles. I ONLY put Mobil 1 oil in my '04 Stratus R/T Coupe and I run it 6500 miles before I change the oil and the oil comes out looking better than some $2 oil does brand new. I've had my car for 2 years and I've changed the oil 5 times and I'm coming up on my last oil change that this car will have from me as by the time it comes up again, the dealer will have it on the used car lot and I will hopefully have my new '07 Caliber SXT.

Great info, test kits, and a chance to save some real money.
If you are on a lease, you gotta follow MFR's recomendations, but if you are going to own it and keep it, testing is the way to go.
