a new caliber owner
purchased...well i had to order one from the factory since there were things i wanted taken out and other things put in. i purchased a red sxt and dealership said it will take around 4-6 weeks to receive from the factory. i'll find out by next friday when they call me to give me the vin number and etc.
Congrats! Hopefully, I can do the same. I also have some unique things I want in mine so I'll need to order it as well. Please keep us informed. I would like to the true lead times if you order so I can get an idea of how long it will take. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new Caliber. Everyone I know who has one, absolutely loves it!
Just out of curiosity, what options did you choose?

I placed my order for the R/T last Friday and was given an ETA of 6-8 weeks. Hoping that this was a 'safe" estimation by the dealership up here in Edmonton Canada. They had a black R/T but it did not have the chrome rims and the power sunroof I want. In any case, I want an inferno red similar to my current 2004 SX 2.0 (Neon) which I will be trading in.
These are the options I ordered: Caliber R/T AWD - Inferno Red Ext, 18' Chromes, Power Sunroof, MusicGate Premuim SoundSys, Driver convenience pack, Security Pack, Red Seat Inserts.

i took out the soundgate...and driver convience pack...as i viewed that package for the horribly lazy people who don't do regular checks on their car. as for the soundgate...no thanks to gimmicks...even if it is good. rather install custom audio to my tastes.

It gives you the auto-dimming rear mirror, which so far has been great, a lot better than the old manual style because it does not black out the mirror as much, and works a lot better with people with brighter lights.
It gives you the direction (N,S,E,W) and Temp, which arent super important, but its nice to have the temp stuff handy.
If you have Sirius, an iPod, or whatever else it will show you song/track info as well as regular radio station info right in the mini-display, which means less looking over at the radio, and its less affected by the sun than the radio since its in a covered area.
So I dont see how it has anything to do with people not checking their car, it does not give you anything you dont get without it except the tire pressure monitor, which I dont think you get otherwise, and that is just handy. Its easier to see it like that then to get out there and do it yourself which takes more time.
If there is a better system, why not use it, especially if its just as good or better than the other system, as well as faster.
Oh yeah, and maybe this isnt important for you, but having a cleaner looking interior by having the built in garage door opener system makes for a better looking car. I have it programmed for my garage door and my girlfriends, which makes the interior a hell of a lot better looking.
I guess for the price, I dont see why you wouldnt want it, and maybe you can tell me what you meant by it being for those that are lazy. It doesnt tell you oil level or anything special that you should be checking yourself, its just extra info you cant get yourself unless you carry around extra crap.
So in the end, the car looks better, no manual mirror, no garage door openers, no looking at your radio all the time which can have glare and it can be more dangerous when driving, and its nice to have something that gives you descriptive info about what doors might not be closed, instead of the usual "door ajar" and trying to figure out which one it is...
Oh yeah, and I agree about the Soundgate. I kind of wish I had ordered it, but after talking to a friend who is big into the car audio world, you can do a lot better for the cost, and I dont really care about drop down speakers, I just liked the subwoofer and how clean the install was there.
