Default lead time - european Caliber vs. US Caliber

Hello everybody out there in the Caliber-County and especially Kelly from the DIC!

I've posted this in other Caliber forums/communities before, being somewhat confused in which forum the DIC actually was participating in. Might have been the rising Caliber-Fever, bedazzling my mind.......[&:]

Anyways - I'm a potential Caliber owner from Germany, which means that I have just placed an order for a black Caliber SE CRD with M-Gate and the so called design-pkg, which includes the 17" alloy wheels, the 6CD head unit and - last but not least - a set of beautifull, handcrafted.............erm, well - floor mats.

Now, the dealer didn't really come to the point, when I asked for a fixed date of delivery. "At least 3 (rather 4) month" he said, since the pre ordered Calibers (allegedly 1000ea) for the german market flew off the shelves in about no time, after the car was officially introduced to the german market on june 10th.

Additionally, there seems to be no reliable schedule for - respectively confirmation of - individual ordes from Germany.
So it all seems to be a matter of "best guessing" and patience of a saint!?

What I am pondering about now, is the difference between the domestic US Calibers and the european versions.

Main point should be the Diesel engine, which is currently not available outside Europe and which is expected (according to Dodge marketing) to account at least 60% of the Calibers to be sold in Europe.
Regarding this and the fact that Dodge has put quite some bucks into advertising on our side of the pond, there has to be a certain schedule or master plan for producing "the european Caliber", hasn't it?

I mean, we are talking about a major brand, who has decided to conquer the european market by storm!? So, where the hell are the troups?

According to my dealer there is no reliable information given by the DC-Headquarter in Berlin, regarding a possible "production matrix" or an over all delivery schedule or whatsoever.
If you stick to the information you'll find on the web, anything between 8 weeks and 8 month seems to be a possible lead time, depending on whom (which dealer) you ask and maybe slightly influenced by the individual extras you askf or!?

Maybe Kelly has some (general) information about the whole "european market thingy" dodge has decided to roll over without actually getting in gear right now!?

My local dealer.. didnt contact me...yet...
I was told.. in end of may... that the Caliber.. will arrived in Europe...
then.. after a 2nd contact I´ve done to the "stealer".. and after the all over Europe premiere of the caliber in more or less 10th june 2006..
they told me that finally they would have 2 cars for test drives and another 3 for pre-orders.

still no further contact of them to me.

Swoop... I recall in 2001, when I wanted to by my GOLF mk4 TDI 150bhp or 110KW, here in portugal.. they told me that the waiting list was 6months with no certain date for delivery. (mine arrived 10month laters)
But I imported one from Belgium, and least then a month... I get one... (the only thing was that it wasn´t my first color)

let´s see what happen... with the "masterplan"...

cheers, fLAVIO

Hi Flavio!

I'll go and see my local dealer the next days to talk the entire delivery problem over.
Since I've just ordered a few days ago it wouldn't be a problem for me to step out of the contract immediately. On the other hand, I was able to negotiate a quite decent price, which I would like to stick with!?

Maybe I can convice the dealer with a little (cash) bonus, in case he comes up with an acceptable solution for the unpleasant situation
Saved quite enough on that car (approx 2.7K Euros) to give something back without letting it pass the desks of our financial authorities.

We'll see.....................

Almost forgot to mention: "See ya in the World Cup Finals!!"

I´m going to order my caliber crd sxt next week. Delivery will take - according to the dealer - about three month, maybe four!

So that´s the same information you got. Sales started in Austria on the 23th on June. And the interest is amazing. I´m used to get a demonstration car for a whole day from my favorite dealer. But this time he was only willing to give me the car for two hours because so many people want to test-drive. Sales are going through the roof.

what´s your deal? I guess that I´ll have to pay around 20.500 Euros for the crd sxt...

Hi Cmann,

as for my deal:

black SE 2.0 CRD (€18590,--) with design-pkg (17" Alus, 6CD, floor mats +€740,--) plus Boston Acoustics (+€490,--) incl. shipping/license plates//flowers for the girlfriend & a bottle of Prosecco (+€650,--) - additionally I'll get the rear windows tinted, the original dodge floor mat for the trunk and an complete set of 17" winter-wheels (worth at least another €1.200,-- all together) = sums up to approx €21.700,--

I'll pay €19.000 Euros for the entire package. All I have to do is: wait, wait, wait.................

prices here in uk from £11,450 to £15,450,good value compared to Golf/Focus.1.8,2.0 litre petrol,2.0 vw sorced TDI,manual and CVT auto, good tip for driving the CVT,accelerate up to cruise speed the ease off the gas a bit, will "up gear" itself, and give you better milage, and a quiter cruise. No sign off the SRT-4 yet,may come later hopefullyhttp://www.dodge.co.uk

Well, thats what it is is over here in "good old Europe". And taxes (VAT) are going to rise another 3% in 2007 [:'(]

But compared to a VW Golf Plus i.e. I'll still save about 4K Euros and thats the main point. Besides that, I kinda fell in love with the Magnum, when I travelled through California/Nevada 2 years ago, so the Caliber came right at hand, since there will be absolutely no way to operate the Magnum over here due to the fuel consumption/costs, which is about $ 6.20/gl in Germany.
