Gas pedal clip?
I thought i read somewhere here that theres a clip that keeps the gas pedal from being fully depressed to save on fuel or something?for the life of me i cant find that thread or the clip. One thing i did notice tho was that if i push the gas pedal down with my hand it stops before it touches floor and you have to push it harder to get it by what seems to be a detent in the pedal.
I've heard this referred to on here as the "push to pass button". You can feel it with your foot when you drive. If you don't push the pedal past that point (when in motion), it only revs to like 4500-5000 rpm; but if you push the pedal past that tight spot it snaps to 6000 and stays there till you let off. This litte feature is what convinced me that the CVT is NOT an automatic transmission.
SUBJECT:
Fuel Economy/Performance Operation Feature
MODELS:
2007 (PM) Caliber
2007 (MK) Compass
NOTE: This feature only applies to vehicles equipped with an Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) sales code DAV.
DISCUSSION:
Caliber and Compass models are equipped with a fuel economy/performance operation
feature. This feature provides a noticeable detent (bump/step) in accelerator pedal
movement that is just shy of wide open throttle. Pressing the accelerator pedal past this detent changes the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) calibration to a "maximum performance" mode. Keeping the accelerator pedal before (shy of) this detent keeps the vehicle in an “economy mode†of operation. The change from economy to performance is most noticeable at speeds above 80 kph (50 mph).

I noticed that detent too. I haven't tried it yet at low speed. Can you push hard past this detent from 0 to say, 15mph? Maybe that is why my Caliber has terrible acceleration in that range. Personally, I won't use that detent except for emergencies. I've heard the engine roar & I'm sure extended use past that detent will give you lousy mileage & isn't any good for the engine.
ive looked for the detent and it's really close to the floor...i have never had to push that far down to get my cali up to high speeds....if i am ever in enough of a rush to need to floor it...somethign must be wrong....lol...

i tested it last night...i was on the highway (400 South for those atlanta people on the forum) and was trying to pass someone and remembered to pay attention to the detent...it was there and when i pushed past it my RPM jumped from 4K to 6K and "get up and go" doesn't put into words what happened...i had to quickly pull back to stop from going too fast in traffic...lol...
anyway...that's just my update...

I have tested this as well many times. If you dont push past it its almost like the car has no power but once you truly put your foot to the floor this is like a turbo boost and is awesome for passing some slowpoke on the highway.
