Spark Plugs
I am now the proud owner of a 95 Grand Caravan. 156K miles. Runs pretty good. I would like to replace the spark plugs. I am a retired auto tech about 10 years ago so I still do my work. The engine is a 3.3. What is the easiest way to get to the back 3 plugs? I was thinking of pulling the intake plenum. Is this the way? Also when I hit a good size bump the front springs seem to bottom out. The front shocks look real clean as if they are not too old. Does the van have weak springs or does it supposed to have gas shocks or something like this? I am getting between 18 and 19.8 miles to the gallon, is this about right?
There are several different opinions on how to change plugs on 3.3 and 3.8's. I replaced #3 and #5 from behind laying on the ground with numerous flex and swivel connections--not fun! I flipped back the alternator and got to #1 quite easily. Since that time, I had to remove the plenum to replace the gasket and in the future, that's what I will do to change the rears!
1995 van is the old AS body, 1996 started the NS body, the best way to replace the rear spark plugs is to replace all three from the bottom. The only need to remove the short P/S backet, two 15mm nut and bolt.
