1996 dodge caravan
Hi to all I have a 1996 dodge grand caravan. The check eng lite is on. I have taken it to two state cert mechanics and that can't tell me what wrong. I have been reading some post in the form. One took eng cleaner and sucked it in a vac hose and cleared it for about a day and a hald. Was charged $65 dollars. Second reset it and took iffor a dirve, stoped and reset it twice i believe and it stayed out for about 6 weeks. Charged me$200.00Note also change fuel filter.Oh one other thingsince2nd time van will just die. I mean driving along 70 + mph and it died.Pulled over and put in park it restarted; this has happened about 8/10time at different speeds. Agert looking at some post I have a better idea where to look. I just need to know how to go about doing it. I know a little about autos; not a certifited mechanic. I have a few question if anyone can help. What "obd II" scanner would be recommented for my perosnal use? Can they all reset the computer? I would like to keep it under $100.00 or less. Another question can you drive with it pluged it to collect information? for how long.. Any othe information that anyone can add would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance to all who respond.

RE: 1996 dodge caravan
you can get a generic obd2 scanner from wal mart.. it will give you basic codes.. thats it.. and yes.. it will reset the light... you can leave it plugged up to the computer while driving.. but theres no point.. anything that will collect and store data.. is gonna cost some $$ ... i would get the generic and get the codes.. find out what the codes are.. now.. a 96 caravan.. i think you can still do the key on key off and get the codes off of the c/e light.. find out what the codes are and replace the bad part.. this whole shoving cleaners thru the vacuum lines is kinda back yard if you ask me.. when a part is toast.. its toast..

Master tech;
Thank you, the code that i got from one of the auto places in town that read code is p0300, he said it coud be a dist, plugs, and a couple of things.
Any help you can give me and where to start is greatly appreciated. Not i keep track of my milage and it is fairly consistance of all around of about 15.5 mpg. on hwy it better about 22. No misfire that any of 3 cert mechanic can tell.
