Check Engine Light
I have a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan w/ a 3.3L Engine.................
My "service engine soon" light is coming on. Van seems to be lagging a bit and has a "hot" smell after running for a while.
I took it to Autozone to have them check for a code.
Problem: no code registering. They can not even shut the light off because the computer is not reading that it is even on.
Im trying to avoid taking it to a dealership and spending the cash on hooking to the big machine.
Any suggestions?
I had 2 O2 sensors go bad about 2 yrs ago - had both replaced and new exaust from cat back if that means anything..
Thanx,
Hexadic

I agree if the light is on there has to be a error code I would suggest taking it back and having someone else run the scan or take it someplace else and have then run the scan it sounds like they may have done it incorrectly
if the light is on.. there is a code.. could be though.. this is a 96.. the beginning of obdII systems.. either 1. the computer being used isnt compatable (i.e. you have an obdI system with an obdII style plug .. rare.. but i have seen it happen) or 2. something is wrong with the communications on the onboard computer or the link cable for the computer to plug into the scanner..
I was going to say the 'puter might be fubar. A tech friend of mine said earlier models could set the light for that, but i'm not sure of that myself... Does the key-on-selftest show anything?
