I read the sticky on the power sliding door issue - good information for future reference, but I am having a different problem.

This is on a 2005 SXT.

The right side door will open just fine, but when it gets to the end (all the way open), it shudders and closes. I have to push the button again to make it reverse and open. It started by doing it once, occasionally, only first thing in the morning, but lately it does it all the time. It seems to do it 2 or 3 times before it will stay open. We had it in to the dealer and they replaced the track, which didn't do anything.

I think what is happening is the door is trying to open past the end of its travel, and it thinks there is something in the way and so it closes.

Anyone else have this trouble?

 

No, but did the dealer ck the sliding door module for codes? Because both sliding doors and liftgate modules can store codes.

 

No, they didn't, which doesn't surprise me, really.

Is that a dealer only procedure or can a shadetree hack like me do it?

 

Only if you have a proper scan tool. (Doubtful)

 

Would the standard OBDII scanner do it? Auto Zone will scan for free.

Anyway, here's an update. Now, the door will not close. It does the shuddering and finally stays open, but now when the close button is pushed you can hear the motor running but the door doesn't move. Pushing the button a second time gets no response, and the door must be closed manually.

I have heard the clutch on the motor can get dirty and not release properly. I'm going to tr cleaning it and see if that helps.

 

I doubt the generic one will work. OBDII scanners generally can only access the engine and some of the trans.
If they have an OTC Genysis or Snap-On scanner it's possible you can get the codes.
