Default Caravan stalling when in motion

Hi everyone....I was driving the other day and while my Dodge Grand Caravan LE 3.8L was in motion, I was coasting and beginning to apply the brake gently, my motor suddenly went quiet and I realized that it had stalled. No CHECK ENGINE LIGHT went on.
This happened in 2004 several times but with CHECK ENGINE LIGHT code P0304 EGR system failure so the dealer replaced the spark plugs and their cables, replaced the PCV and EGR valves then did a fuel injector cleaning.
Does anyone know the cause(s) of this motor stall or can make suggestions?
I also saw one recall that mentioned thisefect Summary: AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTERS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 17, 2002, AND JANUARY 20, 2003, SOLD UNDER THE BRAND NAMES LISTED ABOVE. THE FILTER MAY EXPERIENCE MALFUNCTION OF THE QUICK CONNECTOR EITHER BLOCKING FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE OR CAUSING A FUEL LEAK. THIS DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED BY THE DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORP. NOR ANY DAILMERCHRYSLER DEALERS.

Consequence Summary: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THE ENGINE COULD STALL. ALSO, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, THE FUEL LEAK COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.

tks

The Air intake and internal throttle body might need a cleaning.
It is a common stalling problem at full temperture on the 3.3 and 3.8 and has been mentioned many times on this site.
Mostly at idle, warm and all running well. Mine liked to stall during left turns the most.
A/C on makes it happen more.

Buy a spray can and follow instructions.
I think I used Gumout.
From your other posts I believe its a 97 GC.
Is this correct?
Keep looking for a trouble code also.

Good Luck,
Tom

Have you ck the battery connections, because a loose ground wire with cause the engine to die at times with no ck engine lite or stored codes.

Default Good Suggestions

Good advice from all.

Another note. It's wise to keep the throttle body (TB) cleaned on a regular basis, since some Caravans stall (when all other aspects of the engine are fine) because their TB's have not been cleaned. Easy procedure done at near all shops; very easy DYI job. Many have noted that once cleaned, it seems to have taken care of the intermittent stalling issue. I believe there was a service bulletin out from Dodge noting of this fact.

Hi! Hate to revive an older thread but I had this happen to my 2003 Dodge Caravan STX tonight.

I was driving at 40 MPH steady and it just cut out on me. Electronics were still working. I managed to coast into a parking lot but took a couple of tried to restart. Once started I tried to drive it a little to see if it would happen again (in the parking lot) and it did.

I checked for leaks and found none. No smell coming from engine or exhaust. After about 30 minutes I Was able to start it with no problem and it drove fine.

I did the ignition switch check for the P Codes and the following 5 came up (results according to www.aboutautomobile.com ).

P1684 - The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts - Known
P1388 - Auto shutdown relay control circuit
P1389 - No ASD relay output voltage at PCM
P0422 - Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)

Tech at AutoZone recommended at least trying to replace the gas cap in case it wasn't sealing properly. From as best I can remember, he said something about there being little to no pressure in the fuel system.

Did run ok for a while, but did have a couple of "chugs" on the way home.

Replace the ASD relay and see if your gas cap is missing. P0455 could also be crack hose or vent valve, or LDP / NVLD pump.

Ok, I haven't had a stall in over a week. I was going to chalk it up to bad gas and put dome dry-gas in it but today something slightly different started to happen.

WHen I was driving down the road and I hit an uneven spot in the road which made a bump, I got that stutter in the engine which felt like it was going to start to try and stall but then kicked right back to normal.

This happened a few times and then I noticed that if I take my foot off the accelerator when I hit those uneven spot it doesn't seem to happen. And now it seems to be consistent throughout the day.

This has to be something with the fuel system. I just don't even know where to begin looking.

Problem solved.

There were some corroded connections on my wiring harness going to the PCM.

Once that was fixed, stalling problem went away. Running pretty good, as a matter of fact.

Default 2000 caravan

Hey folks:

My 2000 caravan with 176,000 miles started to have similar problems 4 days ago, when traveling down a 2 lane highway. Intermittent surge like a micro stall. It got real bad tonight and stalled at a traffic light, started after about 1 minute. Drove back home with a few surges, when I rolled into town it stalled when slowing for the turn into my hood.

I have read a bunch of posts and am not sure what a PCM is? That
PCM sounds like the culprit or possibly the batt connection? This is my daily driver and until last Saturday it has been a great 4 wheeled vehicle.

Help would be much appreciated!
