Default antifreeze leaking 2008 caravan

Yeah. I noticed my new Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L leaking antifreeze from the radiator cap just the other day. It had left a trail of what looks like dried coolant or mineral deposits from the cap and down the radiator. I pulled it off, wiped it out and reinstalled it. Was hoping that it wasn't seated properly due to debris or simply not tightened completely. I'll have to check it out tomorrow to see if it has leaked any more.

Default radiator cap

Take it back to the dealer . Chrysler is probably using some cheap chinese piece of garbage now . If its leaking it probably not holding pressure like it should.

Looks like it is still leaking. The cap looks good. Would be a hell of a thing if they had to replace the whole rad because they can't get a cap to seal properly against the plastic spout. It's going in to the dealer in a few days to address another problem (with the TPM System - on-going issue in another post), so I'll get them to look at it then.

I only had to replace a rad once to get the cap to seal.
I probably could have sanded the rad where the cap seals, but why dick around if you have warranty.
Most likely it's a bad rad cap. I've noticed thermostat and rad cap quality has declined over the years. The last aftermarket thermostat I bought was made in Israel???
Whats so special about an Israeli thermostat?? It was junk btw...

Default Same Problem

I am experiencing the same problem with the leaky cap on my 08' GC SXT. I have already had the dealership replace the rad cap 2 times and pressure test. Today it was really bad and enough to leave a little puddle on my driveway. I also noticed my resevoir level down as well. I dont know what to do about it. I am fairly sure it is actually leaking out the side of the cap when it gets pressure and running down all the hoses and crap to the plastic underbelly and making a mess. I took the cap off and it seems good no cracks or anything. The dealership was talking possibly changing the entire rad because of this too....enough to **** me off

Turns out there is a Service Bulletin out for this issue.

Took my van in to the dealer today. They must have had some rookie look at it, because when they handed me the service report it stated "There are no visible signs of leakage."

So I walked out and had a look myself - Low and behold there is a trail of dried antifreeze from the radiator cap down the rad spout, down the side of the rad, & on hoses etc.

So I walked back in and spoke with a service man. It apparently helped to mention this forum and that others reported they were having the same issue. So he looks into his magic computer and determines there is a Service Bulletin on the leaking rad cap.

Don't know why they didn't do this in the first place. - It was like they were trying to save a few bucks by using the old Jedi mind trick: "There is no antifreeze leaking from the radiator".

So after extensive waiting around while they dug around in they're archaic computer system, wrote up another work order, and retrieved a new and improved rad cap from the Parts Department I was on my way. The cap is of a totally different design on the inside, and looks much better/ more likely to seal.

Will report back if there is any further leakage noted.

Default 3 cap is a charm

Ok, I just got my van back from the dealer today. This is the 3rd rad cap they have installed and it looks way different than the other 2 pieces of crap they tried. This one looks like it was built alot better and hopefully holds. Time will tell. I am guessing they changed the cap after digging through the service bulletions to figure it out.
