6 bolts (13mm) and a tube of ultra black or grey rtv is all you need. no fancy gasket or seal for the bearing housing. then you can quickly inspect the bearing too.

What year is the van and engine size? One of the things I do before installing a new/reman and seal. I would put the seal on the axle to make sure its a good fit. Then I would remove the old seal and install the new one, Then I would be careful to put the axle thru the new seal and push the axle in until I hear a click. Then I know the axle has locked into place. But if you have a lot of miles on the transmission and the axle has a lot up and down movement, because the diff bearings are failing. The axle seals will not last very long. The fix would be to replace the bearings and cups and both seals.

its a 97 grand caravan with a 3.8 with about 178,000 miles. the seal fit perfect on the reman axle and i put it is no carefully that i dont think it touched the seal til it did click. ive taken this thing apart 3 times already and but it back together again. the last seal i put on lasted about 24 hours then started to leak and now it leaks like crazy its only been 2 days since i but it. im going broke

You will need to remove the rear diff cover and remove the diff to replace the bearings. No you don't need to remove the transmission, but you need to move the transmission as far forward as you can. There are some special tools you will need to remove the bearings and cups. And the bearings and cups are not the same size, so be careful.

They are on the side next to the rack n pinion. Its a pain if you are have never done one.
