Default Caravan smoke problem

Hello Forum,

Currently, I having a problem with my 1989 Doge Caravan 2.5L. When I start my van, I noticed that a light blue smoke comes out of the end of the muffler as well as in the middle of the muffler. This light blue smoke spread out into the atmosphere and people arround start to cover their noses. In addition, it has a strong smell of burned oil. This smoke comes out during the first few minutes after starting the engine, then it stops. After the engine gets warm, it throughs out steam from the muffler. I change the oil in the engine for a thiker viscosity to see if it would stop the smoke from coming out, but there is still some smoke coming out of the muffler. This tarted happening when I changed the regular oil that I useto use for a cheaper brand. This cheaper brand is Auto Zone oil. I changed the Auto Zone oil for a better oil, but no change in the light blue smoke. Any suggestion from the members at the forum will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It maybe time to replace valve seals and pistion rings, and hone out the cylinder bores.

I was thinking along that path Mater T. Is there any thing in the market that I can buy in the mean time to remedy the problem until I can save money to have this job done? Roughly, how how much can these jobe on the engine cost? Thanks Master T

You may try STP if they still sell it, Has far as cost. If you are doing the job, maybe 500.00 in parts. But if you go to a shop, you looking into 2,000.00 or more.

I replaced the valve seals on my '96 caravan as many models have this issue. It does not cost that much but it is lot of work. While you are doing this, you might want to replace other parts as well such as the timing belt and water pump.

I spent about $300.00 with tools
