Question 03 GC Tranny? squeaks when coasting

Something in the front end of my 2003 GC Sport squeaks intermittently; it occurs only when the van is coasting. It's not a bouncy squeak; the squeak repeats consistently with something that is turning.

I don't know if it's the transaxle. I took both wheels off to inspect the brakes, but the brakes are fine. I discovered that the stabilizer link is broken on the driver side, but I wouldn't think that this is causing the noise.

Tranny fluid looks good; I checked it according to the owner's manual. 98K miles, tranny maintenance according to the owner's manual.

Any ideas?

Try replacing the broken link first and reck. If it still does it, see if it squeaks drive or reverse.

Thanks for the reply!

It currently does NOT squeak in drive (not coasting) or in reverse.

I'll try replacing the link. Please advise: I replaced the stabilizer links in a '97 Saturn SC2 (in the rear) late last year. This one in the GC doesn't look like the work involved is much different. It appears that I will need to clamp the stabilizer bar to ???? in order to get the link on both ends (I forget, but I remember seeing something solid that I could use a C-clamp on to do this.) I have a pic on my cell phone. If I can upload it here, it might help explain what I'm talking about. (Or you already know what I'm talking about, and...)

Let me also ask, however, *if* replacing the link doesn't resolve the squeak, do you have other ideas? If it's something to do with the transaxle, although performance does not appear to be compromised, I'd rather not wait until I get a chance to replace the link (might be a few weeks before I can do that).

Thanks for the help! It is *very* much appreciated!
