Default 92 computer unit

on the 92 Caravan what all does the computer control?? I heard it controls timing and I figure it must control idle and fuel injectors? I also noticed I have no EGR system on this one is that normal?? is it a non california model? I am still having same issues as mentioned in throttle problems but I believe it is a computer issue now not a throttle issue. I run it some times 3 days in a row some times a few min then when it acts up I disconnect the battery wait from 5 to 15 min reconnect it and then drive fine. where is the computer on this van?? is there anyway to test a computer?

What is the problem you are having, and when it does act up does the ck engine come on? The PCM on some minivan's would be on the jack side of the fender or next to the battery. The TCM is mounted to the bulk head/firewall on the passager side.

Assuming its the 3l v6, ECM (engine control module) it controls inputs and outputs from many sensors.....

inputs from,
-Distributor,battery,throttle pos sensor,coolant sensor,Transmission switch,02 sensor,brake switch,vehicule speed sensor,map sensor.....

outputs
-ignition coil, rpm, check engine lamp, emr lamp, idle speed monitor, evap puge solenoid, alternator, asd relay, fuel pump relay, a/c relay, rad fan relay, relay, lock up solenoid, fuel injectors, fuel pump and some speed control solenoids....

Here in canada a 92 caravan with a 3l v6 have an EGR valve

no thats the funny thing I never get any check engine lights. It just starts running bad and stalling and missing and has a big dead spot on the the accelerator just off throttle to about 1/2 throttle when I am on the freeway and in traffic. I pull off and it runs really bad at idle still no check engine light. I disconnect the battery wait about 5 min reconnect and it starts and drives fine. I tried just pulling over and waiting but as soon as I start it acts the same I even waited 1 hr once and it still ran terrible but if i disconnect the battery and wait 5 min it fixes it. Sometimes it stays fixed for days sometimes maybe 1 hr but each time I have to disconnect the battery or it just keeps running bad.

If you do have a 3.0L engine, is that with an a604/41te trans or the 31th 3 speed trans? 1992 may have a TSB for a map sensor relocation. The o2 senor could cause the engine to run bad, most the time you will get a code 21 for o2 sensor stays center. There couldbe some other sensor that could make your engine run bad.

I am not sure which transmission it has other than a Automatic I see where the map sensor is on it Ill have to find out which transmission it is and let you know. I thought the o2 sensor only worked at idle not when driving

The o2 sensor send a signal to the controller when engine is either idling or driving.

I cannot find the PCM or the TCM on this van I see nothing under the jack on the pasengerside about how big are they?? I see on the Battery side there is a box that the air filter tube connects to looks like a air meter or something then above that I see 4 relays maybe 5 are these units pretty small or are they about the size of a CD player?? I have seen some computer control boxes on other cars but I cannot seem to find the one on here. I did find the plug to hook up the code reader its under the Fuse box on the drivers side right? I was thinking maybe when it is acting up even though I have no check engine light i will try to chug it over to autozone and have them hook up the unit there has to be something in the codes because it can't possibly run that bad and the computer not realize it. maybe my computer is bad enought that the check engine light isn't working properly either.

Ok i found something by the battery I thought it was a air flow meter like I had on my jeep but this seems to have a tn of wires going into it so I assume this may be the PCM is the air flow through the box to cool the computer? I wonder if maybe it is overheating and that is what is causing the problems and not giving me a C/K engine light is there anyway to see if something is blocking it inside? I remember when i first got the van it had a few rags in that spot by the opening to check oils I assume I wonder if maybe one got sucked into the opening??
am I wasting my time or could that be the problem?
