Cool 2002 caravan doors lock unlock driving

Our 2002 caravan (109k) doors lock & unlock driving as well as sitting in the driveway with no key in the ignition. We have tried changing the settings to turn the auto-lock feature off in the above consol-no luck. Weather has been dry until recently and now with humidity & light rain this has started. Ideas?

Unhappy

No the dpme lights do not flash. No dash lights lit up or flashing and the headlights do NOT flash when the door locks are doing their thing. I did disconnect the batteries from both key fobs thinking that perhaps a fob button was hung up. No luck. Wether the van is sitting in the drive way turned off and not key in the ignition and/or driving down the highway (70mph) all the door locks lock and unlock random/no specific number of times and then quit for a few minutes and the do the spasmic locking & unlocking repeatedly over and over whether the van is running or not.

HELP!!!

BTW We can be driving 35MPH or 70MPH and the door looks just start unlocking and lock several times (no specific number) stop for a few moments and the start up again. I did read the the sliding door wiring harness freyes. Maybe this has happened and is shorting our due to moisture/humidity?

you could have a problem with a door ajar switch, could have a harness issue, could have a bad BCM. It's going to be tough to check out without access to a scan tool.

Where is the "door ajar switch" & how do we check it? Where would the "harness issue" be? Why the "bad BCM"? Who would have "access to a scan tool"?

Thanks for your input.

Door ajar switches are built into the door latches. The body controller sends a voltage to the switch and when the door closes, it opens the switch and the BCM knows that the door is closed or open. You would check the switches by ohming the wire from the BCM connector to ground and then open and close the door and look for continuity.

Wiring problems could occure anywhere, there is no common area that I know of.

Sometimes the controllers just go "nutty" and do stuff for no reason. It's one of those thing where you check everything you can think of and if all of it is ok, you replace the controller.

And any shop would have a scan tool. You can purchase them online. Some systems it is almost impossible to diagnose if you don't know what the computor knows. Locks is one of those.

Thank you for the information & the wiring schematic, Tizzy1. Oddly enough, yesterday afternoon, the lock/unlocking event progressively slowed down to fewer, fewer frequency including nothing last night or today??? Sure sure does sound like a moisture/short somewhere to me. BTW Your wiring diagram got me thinking that about three years ago the dash lights quit, the backup lights quit and I seem to remember that the door locks did this same thing back then too. The long story short is that we paid our local Dodge dealer $100 to spend ??time to diagnoise all the connections, BCM, etc and their conclusion was that the Factory Dodge Alarm System (installed by a Dodge Dealer when we purchased the van new) was causing all the mis-events. Our son removed the alarm system which did not fix a thing. He spent the next hour checking connections and when he got to the BCM, the BCM plug was half hanging out of BCM connection. Our son said it looked like one of the clips that held the plug tight to the BCM was broken when the original Dodge dealer installed the alarm system and didn't even try to fix the BCM plug in place with duct tap or a wire tie. Our son locked the plug in place with two wire ties and everything worked that had stopped working. Maybe we need to check the BCM connection again? Something to think about & check. Many thanks,

That would make alot of sense, especially if it was the C3 connector which has alot of the lock inputs in it.
