Reasonable price to do inner tie rods?
I got one estimate of 400 bucks it is not a very easy job for a novice to do , you need a special tool which can be purchased at harbor freight but you will not have the right size claw foot you will have to make your own or buy it separate , me being stubboirn I replaced them my self, you must be very careful with the rack an pinion bar because if you twist it to much you will damge your main steering mechanism . the only thing that holds the inner tie rod to the rack is lock tite and 60 pounds of torque. I used a pipe wrench to break the old ones loose as you do not have any wrench surface on the old one. many things will come up for the ones wanting to do this at home so consider taking it to a reputable shop and having it done there.
Thanks welder4! That was very helpful information. Fortunately, it turns out I didn't have any problems with the tie rods like I thought I might, but based on your reply, I would have found the $400 to have this done.
