Default When to use 5th gear?

We have a 6-month old 2010 Caravan with a 3.3 motor. We recently returned from a 3500 mile road trip and are not pleased with the mileage. (Total mileage on the vehicle is 9543K/5930m.) I read somewhere that fuel consumption can be improved by using 5th gear at certain speeds. Can anyone confirm this and at what speeds and/or traffic conditions should it be used? This model does not have a tachometer so rmps are not an option in configuring fuel usage.

Any help appreciated,

Welcome to DF
Can't comfirm the mileage, But should have autostick. When you are driving, move the autostick to 5th gear and let us know how the mileage change.

We know of nothing official that says it will help. You'll have to try it and see what it does. What kind of fuel economy are you getting now?

Doesn't the 3.3 only come with a 4 speed auto?

Although it says it's 3.3, we appear to have 5th gear. Am going on a 'test' drive later and will try to clear it up.

Smile Solved - When to use 5th Gear

Thanks to all who replied. I did a test run and found what I was looking for. Although there is no 5th drive there is overdrive which leaves the 'eco on' lite at higher speeds when without.
