98 caravan problem

Default 98 caravan problem

i have an 98' dodge caravan. problem is when i put van in drive "1" gas pedal dosent move at all, running or not. the further i move the shifter to park the more i can press the gas pedal. in park pedal goes al the way to floor like it should. also when engine cold it doesent shift out of first gear till around 30-40 mph, when warm shifts better. anyone know what this problem is, or can tell me how to fix?

Try this.Remove the kick down cable or linkage at the transmission and try it again. The kick down lever shaft as at time to sized up and cause this kind of problem.

removed kickdown cable, accelerater moves freely, cable slides freely also but is it ok to keep off

The problem is the kick down shaft on the valve body. Either try to loosen it up or replace the valve body. You need that cable for your up shift and down shift.

yeah your right the kick down shaft was frozen up, but with a lil liquid wrench and an hour of moving back and fourth finally got it moving freely and van runs about 95% better. now for a flushing and change. thanks alot for your help and saving me some money from going to a shop, thanks again
