Default Speedometer Quit

1996 Caravan (3.0 V6) Automatic

My speedometer quit working last night. It was working when I drove it to my daughters, but after being parked for about 5 hours, when we started back home, it wouldn't work at all. The milage (digital) is still working, but the analog speedometer isn't.

Are these still operated from a cable to the side of the transmission, or are the computer operated now some how?

Thanks,

Do you have a 3 speed transmission or 4 speed?

Not sure about which transmission it has (3 or 4 speed auto), but my wife tells me that the speedometer is back to working now. She also noticed the little green light on the steering wheel (cruise control) was "off" the other night while the speedometer wasn't working, but it had came back "on" when she cranked it up the next day heading for work, and everything is fine now.

I am now wondering if the tires will hold air pressure if the cigarette lighter goes out

Thanks again,

Well, it worked that day (speedometer), but today it worked on the way to work, and didn't work on the way back.

My goodness don't let her tell me the cigarette lighter isn't working tomorrow!! She don't smoke & I have NO fix-a-flat in the van.

You could have a bad output turbine speed sensor, or a wire coming apart to the sensor. If you have a 4 speed transmission. Or the speed sensor on the end of the passenger side extension housing, on the 3speed trans.
