Purchased last week and specifically asked the saleman about towing and he said it would tow 3500lb. Upon checking the owner's manual it can only tow 1800 with 2 people as it doesn't have the tow package. Called the dealer and informed the manager that the van is useless to me if it can't tow. After several calls back and forth he called with his resolution. He said the mechanics checked and the transmission and the radiator are identical in the vans with and without the towing package. The only difference was the tow vehicles had an engine oil cooler and different shocks in the rear. Any experts out there that confirm this? He has agreed to put on the engine oil cooler. I just am having a hard time believing they are telling me the truth. Thanks!

i have a 2010 with tow package, yes it comes with different shocks, self leveling ones that drive a few km/miles the rear will level. i think the engine cooler sounds right too. not sure if all have it but i think transmission cooler too. i check the chrysler/dodge website and confirm whats really all is put on vehicle.

 

According to Edmunds, the Hero model doesn't even offer the towing package. You have to move up a level to the SXT to be able to get it.
Here is the description from Edmunds on what the towing package includes:

AHT Trailer Tow Group
Heavy duty engine cooling; Heavy duty transmission oil cooler; Load leveling and height control; Heavy duty radiator; Trailer tow wiring harness.

 

mfahey is correct.
It will have a heavier duty radiator, trans cooler, leveling shocks, hitch, wiring harness, and oil cooler from the factroy.
You are asking for trouble if you tow some without the package.

 

anyone wanting to tow 3500# with a minivan needs to have their head examined. that is so unsafe I don't even want to get into all the problems with that Idea.

get a truck if you want to tow.

Whoa--settle down! we never had any intention of towing that much--we only have a small 5x8 cargo trailer that fully loaded will only weigh about 1500 lbs. I was just trying to figure out if the salesman (and the manager) were being honest. (I guess that would be a miracle!)
