Default Need help with my 2001 Dodge Caravan

First off, I need to say I do not know alot about mechanical things with vehicles, so please bear with me if i do not explain that well.

For a few weeks now, my van has been almost stalling out when sitting idle. Now it is starting to do this other thing that is hard to explain. When driving, it will all of a sudden not accelerate when i press the gas. I can floor it, and my RPMs go up to about 3k, and i can't get over about 20 mph. It also sounds very loud when it does this. After a few min or so, it will stop and start driving normally again.

Any ideas?? I have been told transmission, transmission filter, fuel injection system, and the computer in the vehicle.

I don't have tons of money to get testing done at local shops if i can avoid it. I just recently put $1200 into this van on other repairs not even 6 months ago.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help!!

that's a really tough one. you don't have the mechanical aptitude to determine if it's engine or transmission. maybe you can find a local trade school and have them give you a determination for no charge. this sounds like a problem where a trained professional would need to experience this problem for a more accuate determination of problem causation

Welcome to DF
Jason, first you need to ck for stored codes in the engine and trans controller. You could also have a plugged exhaust system. But like sapporo had said, maybe a trade school may determined the problem.
