Default RUST spots caused by poor drainage ??

The rear door suffers from rust at the two sides and the latch. It appears that the water cannot drain properly and collects on the weatherstriping under the door. Has anyone tried drilling holes to drain away the water to prevent the rusting ? ..maybe another solution that I cant imagine ?

Also the right side sliding door seems to collect water (somelwhere) also but not the driver side sliding door. In fact after driving in the rain, water continues to drip 12 hours later --- a prescription for early rust problems. I need to keep this van running for the next 3 years. 1999 Millenium silver.

There should be drain holes already. What can do is remove the door panel and do a water test. Run water around the door and windows and inspect for any leaks. Or you can drill holes at the bottom of the door. again remove the door panel to drill,so you don't drill a wire or a cable if there is one.
