Help with trans cooling lines
Hello everybody,
My '97 Caravan started leaking trans fluid and after tracing it I found a drip-drip-drip from the trans cooling lines just underneath the electric fans. The lines seemed joined together, and come up between the fans and disappear toward the front passenger side.
I'm not sure if they are welded together or just that close but it looks like they might have rusted through at a bend near the bottom.
This van is not driven a lot and only has about 75,000 miles but it seems that it has really rusted badly underneath from just sitting. I had to replace the brake lines about 2 years ago.
Anyhow, any ideas on how hard they are to replace, can I just graft in some rubber hoses or is this a dealer only part ?
And just to be sure after looking at a few other posts; The lines I am talking about come out of the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side go up between the fans and over to the passenger side. If these are not the trans lines please let me know. I'm not home right now to double check.
OK, I double checked --- Are there 2 coolers in the trans ??? It looks like the lines on the drivers side go over and into the radiator on the passenger side. A line from the trans goes over to the top of the pass. rad. and then the lower side of the pass. rad. line connects with the divers side lower and the upper drivers side goes back to the trans ??? I'm confused.
Thanks again for the forums help,
Frank

Don't be confused. You have a towing package on the cooling system. Two ways you can fix this. One replace the lines you have or two perform the TSB to add a 2nd cooler. I will try to find that TSB.
Thanks Master Tech,
I started taking it apart and it looks like I'll need to replace the radiator as well. The fins are desintigrated on a large area of the radiator, I'm sure it's the original.
If the rad wasn't bad I thought I'd go the cheap route and just eliminate the second cooler but we all know how that would have turned out.
I think I found the line kit as a Dorman part and will look for the radiator tomorrow.
Thanks again for your help, I was confused, never saw one like this.
