Default 2006 Key - Remote

I did a search and was left confused...

The little plactic ring on one of our remotes broke so there is no way to attach it to a key ring.

I looked at replacing the complete remote and found that it was expensive to have done at a dealer.

Next I thought that I could purchase an new shell. I learned that the key and shell are one piece so I'd have to have the key cut but I couldn't find any instructions about changing electronics.

Next I considered a new remote from Ebay or a low cost suplier that required me to have the key cut and reprogram the electronics. The steps to re-program without going to a dealer were not clear so I backed away from that option.

My next thought was to have a key cut and forget one remote. I was told that the key contains a chip so that would not work.

Is there a chip in the key that dosen't have a remote?
If so how do I program it?

If I get a new case -how do I change the electronics? and will a chip come with it?

Is there an easy inexpensive way to program a new remote ?

Any other sugestions???

I believe you can buy the blank key/remote and switch the key blade over to the new remote. Then you will need to preogram the remote.

Default key

T thought that the remote shell was avaliable on Ebay. I have seen them for sale I don't remember how much they are but they are bound to be a whole lot cheaper than the complete key.

Default Key remote

To keep the costs down I purchased a shell with an uncut key, containing no electronic module.

As such, you can purchase a uncut key/shell from a seller off ebay.

The remote can be opened in half by taking a small screw driver (or equivalent) to pry it open from the top of the plastic shell.

You can then switch over the electronic module that basically is kept together by the two half pieces of the plastic shell.

You can get the key cut at either your local dodge dealer (mine did it for free) or at any key cutter who cuts car keys by taking the original and new key when getting cut.
