Default brake light warning comes on while driving

I have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. For the past couple of weeks i am noticing that sometimes... the brake light indicator will show while driving and then after 5 seconds go away.

Last night i noticed that after i started my car.. the brakelight and the abs light both stayed on for a few more seconds than usual.

This happens during i drive, the light will come at least once and then go away. doesnt come back again after showing once.

Please help. I am a novice.

Default Brake Light

Slide under the dash an check out the stop light switch, if the rod is not sliding in and out smoothly this will keep the brake light on.

I had this prob too, low on fluid. Adding fluid fixed the problem.

Also if you're missing fluid, your brake pads might be needing changing or you've developed a slow leak somewhere.

Thanks everyone, there is brake oil fluid..its a little less than half. I have not checked the stop switch. I am not sure how that looks but i will check that tommorrow. The light comes and goes a couple times each trip.

I will update again. thanks!

brake fluid either leaks out or you need brake pads. when they wear down the fluid level drops. i check them if you have not replaced them in the past.

should be at the full line, unless ur pads have worn alot then the fluid will be less.
or you got a leak(i have a feeling if you top it up you wont see that warnign light again)

2010 sxt is right on the money
