Default Air leak noise from brake booster after its replacement

Hey guys,

I've noticed a weird noise coming from my brake pedal assembly side ever since brake booster replacement and it sounds like a constant continuos air leak. I can it from under the dash all the time while driving except for when applying brake.

The air leak noise gets pretty louder as I increase vehicle speed especially on highway.

I got my head down in driver's footwell with the engine running in gear park and could hear a constant air leak. The air leak noise sounds like coming from a little rubber accordian looking boot.

I also noticed if I depressed the brake pedal, the noise would go away instantly as soon as the pedal was depressed. And when the brake pedal is released, the noise comes back.

Is this because of bad power brake booster?

Anyone had a similar problem before and knows what could be a solution?

Thanks for your help in advance!

It could be a bad booster or you have a vacuum hose off somewhere.

Hi master tech, thanks for your opinion!

I checked vacuum hose and it was fine. So can bad brake booster make that kind of air leak noise while vehicle is running?

I took my van to didge dealership service where I got a brake booster replacement before, but they keep saying they don't hear it, but it's been obviously there all the time when I drive it ever since its replacement.

Is this Ok if I drive especailly on highway with the brake booster making that kind of air leak noise?

Thanks!

i take it back and take a ride with the main service tech for that type work. does sound like you have a bad booster or leaking vaccum hose.

It seems like the brake works good so far, but I'm concerned it might be getting bad suddenly on highway, such as interstate driving.

I heard the dodge dealer got a booster from local auto parts store, like O'Reilly or advance auto parts etc.

I'm curious why the dealership technicians kept pretending not hearing the noise....I guess they didn't want to replace it by warranty. How do I have them correct what they fixed?

Thanks for all your help anyway!

ive had an non oem booster make the same noise turned out to be normal.

the holes on the backside they use to let atmospheric air in are smaller than original and make a hiss noise. (the original had less holes but they were much larger)
this is why I asked if it was an OEM booster.

if they brakes feel good rest easy its unlikely they will just go out on you.
I'd worry more in town as you'll use the brakes alot more than on the highway.

suprised the stealershi) didnt try to hose you for a mopar booster as its probably 3X's more expensive than the one from aftermarket

HI hemi4spd, thanks for your useful info!

I also have some problem with rough engine at idle when in gera D or R - it gets worse at D or R, since the booster replacement.

I checked and replaced many many things: spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, air filter, intake manifold gasket, fuel filter, oxigen sensors front & back, IAC motot, throttle position sensor, MAP sensor. Also tested with vacuum gauge and the reading was at steady 18, which I thought it was a little low, compared to 20 as shown in Chilton repair manual.

Despite all this effors, I still have rough idling only at stop lights. Once I drive on roads, it seems running fine.

So, I was suspecting rough running might have something to do with the brake booster air leak noise possibly causing vacuum leak to lead to rough engine idling.

What do you think?

Many thanks!
