2005 key/fob --reprogramming?
My van came with only 1 remote key. I need a second key and can not use the on-car programming key feature without 2 keys. I went to the dealership and about had a heart attack--They wanted $235.00 for a new 6 button remote key with programming.
I have a pair of used 6 button keys from another 2005 van.(van is long gone) Here is my idea:
Purchase 2 new key shells
Have the shells cut at my local hardware store(saves $$$)
Put the internals from the old set of keys from the other van in the new shells
Take one of the "new" remote keys (new shell with the internals from the old 05 van) to the dealer
Have them program the remote key
Then I will have 2 working keys and can do the same with the 3rd key except I can program it with my ignition(as stated in the manual)
My big question is-- will the old set of remote key internals reprogram to my car.
Doing this can save a lot of money--Replacement shells are $10/each , Since I already have the used set of keys--I am way ahead. Getting the keys cut will cost a few $'s
Having the dealer program the key $50.--2 keys total will be @75
Any input?
Thanks
