What was the exact code? This is a classic example of how codes don't mean to throw a part at the problem. you need to have it properly scanned to see what is going on with the transmission. Not just Autozone code reader but an actual scanner and proper diagnosis to see what the real problem is.

Well, then you need a Trans Controller.

With the DRBIII
t, read DTC’s.
Is the Starts Since Set counter 3 or less ?

Yes
® Replace TCM.

p0700 means you need to have someone with real transmission experience, and a real scanner capable of accessing transmission data, atn then you'll get pointed in the right direction instead of throwing the wrong parts at the wrong code.

P0700 is a very generic code that comes on in the PCM when there is a trans problem. It us usally followed by another code. It very rarely leads to actually needing a TCM. However the only true way of determining the problem is a real scanner looking at TCM and not the PCM.

I know Tizzy has mastered the Chrysler cut and paste but without actually accurate diagnosis, the needs of TCM as the only solution are premature.

This>>> P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) (What you are confused about)
And this>>> P0700-INTERNAL TRANS CONTROLLER (What the OP has)

Are 2 completely different pigs. What the OP has is a separate TCM and that code is generated BY the TCM as an INTERNAL failure. Same relation as would be an NGC P0604, 605 and 613. The "GENERIC" term you refer to is a MIL request from the TCM partition to the PCM partition on the PCM in order to turn the MIL on. 2001 does not have this. It does not apply is this instance. What Tizzy posted is the correct info for this van. There is no P0700 in the PCM for 2001. You have your systems confused.

In the intermediate years or early NGC, the P0700 is also a PCM code

P0700-TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM/READ TRANSMISSION
DTCS ON THE DRBIII
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 This is an informational DTC letting you know that a DTC(s) is stored in the
Transmission Control Module.
Erase this DTC from the PCM after all Transmission DTC(s) have been repaired.

Using the DRBIII
t, read the Transmission Controller DTC and refer to the

Transmission Category and perform the appropriate symptom.

PCM Diagnostic Information complete.

All
Continue

Test Complete.

Tizzy's post is correct, because this is what chrysler uses for code p0700. But also maybe other codes in the TCM too. I would need to know the other codes if there are any. If no other codes in the TCM, then the TCM needs to be replaced.

DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request) Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure. P0700 Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM. This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad. This is a good example of understanding what the codes actually mean. If the manual you looked at said the TCM is bad and to replace the TCM when you see a P0700, then it is wrong.
