Default 99 Grand Caravan, 3.3L... Tranny just disengaged?

I was driving my grand caravan home tonight and out of no where the tranny just disengaged. No limp mode, no reverse, no nothing. If I shut the car off and then on, I had drive for about 20 seconds until it disengaged again... So needless to say I ended up stop and starting it all the way home... Thank god the kids had fallen asleep...

Did you check the fluid level, if it is low on fluid it will do that.

Have you check the TCM for any stored codes, I'm guessing the the front pump is failing.

I'll bet if you manually put the trans into 1st gear, and leave it there, you will be able to move the van around in first gear without it "disengaging." Try it.

Well we ended up taking it to a tranny shop. They just called and said the rear planetary went.

Make sense? Said its going to cost $1979....

I'm thinking if the rear planetary went out, it wouldn't move at all.

I think a second opinion is in order.

Wow really?

He is supposed to have it fixed by tonight...

How do you get a second opinion if the guy already had your car in pieces?

Got the van back. Radiator has a crack in it and the shop owner refuses to pay for it.

Just great.
