Default 2000 Caravan 2.2L coil pack issues?

started misfiring, Codes indicated coil pack was bad, replaced it, did not resolve issue , new plugs/wires, replaced PCM with junkyard unit, seemed work, next day same issue, took to Chrysler shop, replaced with new PCM 3 times, replaced coil pack, worked with Star Center for 2 weeks, took apart cam sensor, it looked good, put back together and the vehicle has ran good for about 3 weeks or 300 miles, starting misfiring again, towed to dealer, now they say the PCM is telling them that the "circuit driver #2" has a problem, they are waiting to hear back from Star Center again! Any ideas would be helpful. The dealer service dept. has no clue.

Which harness are you referring to?

Unwrap the one behind the power steering reservoir look for corroded wires. It has been reported as a problem in the caravans. Conduct a search of this forum and you will see other threads on subject.

Sorry on the 01 the harness is behind the power steering res. On the 00 follow the wiring harness connected to the coil pack. Unwrap the cloth tape on it check for broken or corroded wires. Oil and heat deteriorate the wires and you get intermittent shorts.

My local Service Dept. just called and now the Chrysler engineers are telling them to replace the Cam sensor, cam sensor magnet and crank sensor. That is the best they can come up with and are not certain what is going on. The code they are getting is P0352 which is a a coil #2 primary circuit. They previously disassembled the above mentioned and "everything looked good".

Far be it from me to defend a dealership mechanic but from the view point that the "smoking gun" isn't obvious yet and the cam sensor was the last component disturbed before it ran well for a period of time (correct??) then changing it makes some sense. Changing both sensors (cam/crank) is normal practice for many shops. Failing cam sensor indications can mask a failing crank sensor and visa versa.

Someone would still have to explain how a cam sensor can cause a P0352 code. There is somewhat of a connection in the fact that the cam sensor identifies the camshaft position for the PCM to schedule fuel injector pulses at start up. I would think though that if it were failing it would effect more than just the #2 cylinder. More likely several and randomly at that. My meager knowledge makes me think if it were a cam sensor issue it would be related more to the ring gear the sensor reads more than the sensor itself. Possible debrie on the ring gear is interfering with the sensor as it rotates to the #2 position or the ring gear is somehow damaged at that point. I'm just bouncing things around.

FYI - Just read another starting problem thread that was fixed by repairing wires in a wire bundle under the battery. This wire bundle has a history. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-c...d-caravan.html

The dealership service dept. removed the cam sensor, magnet, etc. to visually inspect it but did nothing but clean the parts and reassemble. Prior to that the vehicle ran "well" for a short time after they changed out (3) PCM's and this last time after after the cam sensor removal/replacement for about 3 weeks. He basically told me if this doesn't work they (Star Center) have ran out of ideas.
