97 caravan eatx shift / engagement trouble p0700
Hi all,
Just swapped tranny in 97 3.3L for a tranny from 3.8l and it goes really well as long as I don't mash the pedal from a stop. If I do that it drops out of gear as if imaginary clutch pedal was pushed and released quickly. Rpm's surge and a half sec later tranny engages and slams into gear. It also enters limp mode and lights CEL after this. Every other stop or so the tranny is slow to engage but does engage and shift up thru OD. Reverse is almost useless. It will back up but shudders under acel. CEL and limp mode at this point. It will not back up a hill, shudders/slips like mad if I try to back uphill, will back up a slight grade under very light acel..
DTC P0700 (TX mil request.) Will go off if neg. cable taken off bat.. Stays off until reverse or WOT in D.
Anyone familiar with this unit have any great, good, ok, or even a bad ideas LOL?
I can diagnose and rebuild a 42 or 46 rh or re (my V8 Dak, in laws Cherokee) but I don't have a good working knowledge of this 41TE and I'm pressed for time so I can't study it too hard........YET!!!
I hope one of you folks out there has that knowledge and is willing to share!!!

I would need to know what are the codes in the transmission control module, to tell you what going on.P0700 could be an internal fault or you have stored codes in the TCM. Yes I know these transmission as well as the 42/44RH/RE, 46,47,48RE,62TE,42RLE,NAG1,545RFE, And the 68RFE transmissions.
I wish I had the DRB tool to tell you those codes Master_tech. If I did I prolly wouldn't be asking for much help.I was just looking for a probable cause, a common failure if you will. I am trying to talk boss into letting me spend the $$$ at the dealer cause after my time wasted and parts bought/swapped it'll cost more than the scan at the dealer. On the bright side I did come across the tranny manual for my "other" make of truck that needs reverse fixed.
