'99 Grand Caravan, stalls when put in reverse
Hi,
My mother (who lives 3 states away) called me up with problems she's experiencing with a '99 Grand Caravan V6 3.0L she recently bought. The Check Engine Light came on about a week ago while driving. Also, she started up the van, put it in reverse and it died completely. At that time, my uncle pulled a couple of codes (but I don't have them handy right now) but I think one was a transmission mode.
A few days ago, the Check Engine Light disappeared and the van drove normal.
Yesterday, the Check Engine Light reappeared and the same problem occurred with the van dying completely when put in neutral. Also, the van died out completely when she made a right turn. To add to the mystery, she remembers having 1/4 tank of gas, and when she started it the gas gauge jumped down to 1/8. After 2 miles, the gas gauge jumped back up to 1/4 full. I don't know if this is related to the van dying out in reverse and making a right turn.
Any ideas to the problem? I will see if she can remember the exact codes it is giving.

Thanks for the reply. I did receive some more information.
It is a 3 speed, and the codes coming up are:
P1787
P0700
P1294
The van seems to stall out at slower speeds, when coming to a stop and when going in reverse. Putting on the A/C makes it even worse. If the van is gotten up to highway speeds it will drive just fine.
A good scenario is: She will be driving in the neighborhood around 20-25 with the A/C on. She comes to a stop at a stop sign. The van will just stall, with no stumbling, hesitation or any other surging etc...

are all 3 codes setting at the same time? the 1787 refers to the OD pressure switch , you can test it for faults by resistance testing otherwise it indicates a faulty solenoid pack. the 700 is most likely related to the 1787 and the solenoid pack. and the 1294 is is most likely a vac leak or faulty IAC . would check for vac leaks first , best to check your fuel trims with a scanner and if no leaks are present and trims are good replace that IAC if its electrical connections look ok.
If you are getting a P0700, then you must have a 4 speed automatic. The only code you would get for a 3speed is a torque converter lockup code. Your RPM maybe too low, causing a stalling problem.
