Weak points?
I will try to post pics, but I have to find camera first. So, long story short, there was a goof up at inspection this year, and 2 AWD astro vans were let in without their front shafts removed. They took out a dozen caravans, a Sienna and 2 -2wd astros. I did pretty well until I got creamed in the front driver corner. Pushed the front strut tower to the intake, and shoved the engine completely to the frame on the other side. I wouldn't want to be in a frontal crash in one of these things, At 20 mph, that hit caused my steering wheel to get a lot closer to me than I would have liked. They are hard as a rock on the back, but the front is way too soft to even be safe. On the plus side, they are really quick in the mud with the right tires, and the interior/glass stripped out. Took second place with the Ranger, lost to a Dakota. I have a 96 C/V for next year, have to do some creative welding.
2nd is the first looser.
So, on to the 96...
I have what appears to be a very well abused 96 C/v. It has a 3.3, just like my 95. It had a pretty good rattle when I got it. Backing it off the trailer, It made a loud bang and then the rattle went away- only a vibration was left. Magically, 5 quarts of oil ended up in the driveway. Will a rod/piston from the 95 fit /work in the 96, or is it a total waste of time? Would I be better off just dropping the oil pan, cleaning out all of the broken parts, welding up the hole in the pan, and disconnecting the injector and running it as is. This is assuming that the whole engine from the 95 will not just bolt and go in the 96, I am assuming most electronics changed with the bodystyle. Other option, sell all for scrap and go get a buick Roadmaster wagon, dump a small fortune into the 225 /6-904 and run with the real cars.
